I am from Australia and have some knowledge about getting loans in Australia and getting loans in Asia for property in Australia.

Don't know all that much about loans in Japan, for Japanese property, loans seem to be available but difficult for non Japanese to get. Property is very expensive for what you get.

But seems like people in the states have a bit of an easy ride with tax right offs on interest on your personal home.
