Hello,

I have read that link exchanges can be beneficial.

However, I have noticed that when people add your link to their site, more than likely it will land on a page with a Google Page Rank or a 1 or a 0.

Our links page on our website is a 4.

Should we only exchange links with sites with a 4 or higher on our links page? Or does it not make a different?

Thanks for the input.

I think link exchanges can be beneficial if the content is related. Too much linking goes on out there for the sole purpose of building page rank. The search engines are becoming aware of this unnatural linking and I bet they are working out ways to reduce your page ranking because of it. They want relevant information for the users search, and to capitalize on the paid advertising that goes along with it. In my opinion, your best bet is to have rich and unique content, free tools, a good brand or a real reason for other people and webpages to link to your pages. The best types of link exchanges are those that you didn't ask for. For example: people creating hyperlinks to your pages becuase they find your stuff useful.

From my recent research, it appears as though this is frowned upon my most of the blogosphere and Google if you're using adsense (which i presume you are based on the forum). They have much smarter people and algorithms there than is evident on the surface and I'm sure they're shrinking the page rank, ad CPM and other measures to deter. In some cases, they ban you from adsense according to some posts on their forums.

For some more legit and rewarding ways to increase traffic, check out some posts I did at my blog site (linked to my main finance site in my title).

Linking can be good but yes I believe it needs to be content related. Quickapply has a pretty good response. I believe "One way" links help you out more than anything. that along with "back links"

Are you considering what text is in the exchanged link as well?
