I recently came across a very interesting individual, accomplished national speaker, and at one point a very successful loan originator who's whole focus is working with realtors. Does anyone have any strategies, stories, ideas, or techniques involving building better lifetime relationships with realtors?

I work with a couple different realtors and I try to spend some time with them outside of the office hours. Coffe, lunch or even have them over at a BBQ. I think it is very important to have a friendship with them as well. It builds more trust and you get to know eachother. Plus you'll tend to send more business to people you like. I want to work with someone that I enjoy working with and someone I know will get the job done.

Working with realtors it is very important to have a familiar friend/business relationship with them.
If you plan to have a "First Time Home Buyers Seminar" make sure you let the realtor have a hand in planning the event.
Constant communication regarding mutual clients is very important. Do not leave the Realtor out in the cold and if a deal begins to go south, make thgem aware that there may be problems.

Whether you're a real estate agent or loan officer, the key to this business is relationships. Life is too short otherwise to hang out or do business with people you don't like. Focus on face to face time networking with other business professionals and make sure you forge relationships with others who truly have the clients best interest at heart. From there, financial success is merely a by-product of doing the right thing. Do the right thing!

glad to see everyone had solid input in this little discussion. It's key to have good relationships...that's the bottom line.

A good way to manage your referral contacts is to set aside a day and go visit them the same day at the same time.
Gifts are nice. But, a realtor needs to know you are a human and that you care for their customers like they do.
A good question to ask any realtor you want to do business with is "What do you value in a lender?" Then you know what you need to do. Personalize your relationship with them so you keep them happy.
Try to send them business. Try and be at their open houses so you can talk. Most importantly be up front and honest. Try and be available for the hours they work. Call them at 7 or 8 at night or weekends and update them on their deals. Ask them for a shot or more of their business if you have proven yourself to them.
Most important dig in and find a way to close that deal that no one else did. Offer a credit repair program to get their clients ready to buy a home later.
I have 18 agents that send me at least 2 deals a month. 1 brokerage of 8 is included in that number. Do not put all your eggs in 1 basket and recipricate their referrals as best you can. 4 legged stool method of marketing. This is only 1 leg.
